Introduction to research
The CPES integrates research into its pedagogy from year 1, and it is present throughout the programme. Laboratory visits, conferences, supervised projects and collaborations with partner research teams run throughout the programme from the first year. The aim is to train students in rigorous scientific methods: formulating a research question, conducting a literature review, designing an experimental protocol and communicating results.
A large part of the CPES teaching staff is made up of researchers or former researchers, which allows students to be in direct contact with people who practise or have practised research on a daily basis.
Content and format
- Visits and meetings with research teams (Université Paris-Saclay, ENS Paris-Saclay, Institut Polytechnique de Paris, HEC Paris, etc.). See the dedicated page.
- Supervised mini research projects from year 1 (L1), linked to the disciplines taught.
- Data challenges to develop skills in data analysis.
- Capstone project in collaboration with HEC Paris.
- Thematic and interdisciplinary conferences to develop analytical rigour and critical thinking.
Why?
Introduction to research allows students:
- To understand how research produces knowledge, develops tools and advances disciplines.
- To train in the critical reading of scientific articles and in experimental or computational methods, depending on the field.
- To test an appetite for academic research and explore further studies in a research master’s, a grande école or a doctorate.
